Basal Ganglia (Putamen) Intracerebral Hemorrhage - Case 1

A 57 year-old man with a long standing history of hypertension presented with progressive aphasia and right sided weakness over the course of an hour. This was followed by headache and drowsiness.

Outline the Hemorrhage          Outline the Vasogenic Edema          Outline the Location of the Basal Ganglia

CT scan of the head. Note the large intracerebral hemorrhage originating in the area of the basal ganglia on left. The basal ganglia is a common location of intracerebral bleeds from hypertension.
