Basal Ganglia (Putamen) Intracerebral Hemorrhage - Case 2

A 52 year-old man with a history of hypertension developed headache, aphasia and right sided weakness over thirty minutes.

Outline the Hemorrhage      Outline the Vasogenic Edema      Show the Location of the Basal Ganglia and Thalamus

CT scan of the head. Note the large intracerebral hemorrhage originating in the area of the basal ganglia on left. The basal ganglia is a common location of intracerebral bleeds from hypertension.
