Carotid Artery Dissection - Case 1

A 24 year-old woman presented with right neck pain and a right Horner's syndrome after a mild motor vehicle accident.  Otherwise her neurologic examination was normal.

Compare the Size of the Right and Left Internal Carotid Arteries

Magnetic Resonance Angiogram - Both Carotid Arteries - note the "string sign" of the right internal carotid, compared to the normal image of the left internal carotid artery.  Although not specific for dissection, this pattern is highly suggestive.
