Non-communicating Hydrocephalus - Prematurity

A 1 year old boy developed an enlarged head. He had a history of prematurity and an intraventicular hemorrhage at birth.

Show the Enlarged Ventricles                     Show the Thin Cortical Ribbon

Axial CT scan - note the marked enlargement of the lateral and third ventricles. The cortical ribbon is extremely small near the skull from the underlying hydrocephalus. Before the bony sutures of the skull have fused, hydrocephalus may present as progressive megaloencephalopathy.
