Pituitary Macroadenoma - Case 6

A 32 year-old woman developed headaches and irregular menses. On laboratory testing, her prolactin level was elevated.

Sagittal MRIs. (Left) T1-weighed image; (Right) T1-weighted with gadolinium. Note the large enhancing mass which fills the sella. This is the typical appearance of a pituitary macroadenoma that is growing beyond the sella. The optic chiasm can be seen above and is not yet affected. Macroadenoma was typically designated as tumors larger than 10 mm.
