Schwannoma - Acoustic Neuroma of CN VIII - Case 1

A 44 year old woman presented with tinnitus of the right ear.

Show the Gadolinium Enhancement of the Acoustic Neuroma

Coronal T1-weighted with gadolinium MRI scans. Note the small nodular mass which then runs laterally and strongly enhances with gadolinium. On biopsy, this lesion was a schwannoma, a histologically benign tumor. Schwannomas are characteristically seen arising from cranial nerve VIII, where they are known as acoustic neuromas.
