Herpes Encephalitis - Case 1

A 32 year old man presented with headache, fever and confusion followed by complex partial seizures with secondary generalization.

MRI axial, T1 weighted, T1 weighted with gadolinium, T2 weighted images. Note the prominent lesion in the right temporal lobe. With gadolinium, there the enhancement prominently involves the medial temporal lobe. Herpes encephalitis has a predilection to involve the temporal lobes. It is essential to recognize this disorder early in order to institute prompt anti-viral therapy.
