MCA Branch Infarction

A69-year old woman with atrial fibrillation presented with the acute onset of a left sided weakness.

Outline the Infarct

CT axial scan (3 days later). Note the low density in the distribution of one MCA branch involving the right posterior frontal area. This wedge shape is classic for an embolic stroke, either from heart or proximal artery.
