Acute on Chronic Subdural Hematoma - Case 1

A 72 year-old man developed progressive confusion over two weeks. There was a history of multiple falls over the past several months.

Axial CT scans. Note the crescent shape overlying and compressing the right hemisphere. There are both an acute and chronic components. On CT, acute blood is hyperintense and chronic blood is hypointense (similar to CSF). In this case, the patient likely had a previous subdural and then rebled.
