Toxoplasmosis

A 25 year man with AIDS presented with lethargy, headaches and numbness involving the left body.

Show the Gadolinium Enhancement of the Infection

(Left) Coronal MRI T1-weighted with Gadolinium; (Right) Axial MRI t1-weighted with Gadolinium. Note the ring enhancing lesion in the region of the anterior thalamus. Toxoplasmosis is often seen as an opportunistic infections in AIDS and immunocomprised patients. They are often located deep in the basal ganglia and thalamus. Please note, this MRI appearance is also consistent with tumor and infection of other etiology.
